About ME

I’m Aleix Gainza, 38, and I’ve spent most of my life surrounded by boats and the sea. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Science and Maritime Transport, along with the professional license of Second Officer of the Merchant Navy (with command). I’m also a Higher Technician in Navigation and Fishing, a Qualified Unlimited Skipper, and a certified Yacht Surveyor. I’m a member of the ANTPM (Spanish Association of  Surveyors) and serve as Port Officer for the Ocean Cruising Club (OCC), representing the organization along the Costa Brava.

My career in yachting started young — I went from being a deckhand on a traditional brigantine to serving as an officer on tall ships and skippering a wide range of sailing and motor yachts of all lengths. Over the years, I’ve been involved in charters, yacht deliveries, and vessel commissioning, gaining hands-on experience with all kinds of boats and systems.

Beyond my professional work, I’m an ocean sailor and yacht owner myself. I’ve crossed the Atlantic and explored much of the Caribbean under sail, which gives me a deep understanding of life at sea — not only from a technical and operational point of view, but also from that of an owner and active navigator.

I’m known for being thorough and meticulous in my survey reports, always aiming to provide clear, objective, and useful assessments that help owners and buyers make confident decisions. This mix of academic background, seagoing experience, and technical expertise allows me to approach each yacht inspection with a well-rounded perspective. I understand what matters to owners, what concerns crews, and what makes a vessel truly seaworthy — both on paper and in practice.
